Radiation Therapists

Radiation Therapists work closely with the radiation therapy team during the planning and delivery of radiation treatments. They participate in the planning and simulation process, and administer the patient’s daily radiation treatments as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. In addition, Radiation Therapists monitor the patient during treatment and assist in maintaining medical records by recording and verifying each treatment. They are also responsible for the safe and accurate operation of the high-tech equipment used to give radiation treatments and perform routine checks on the treatment machines for quality assurance.

Radiation Therapists have completed either a two-year educational program or a four-year Bachelor of Science degree. Certification is earned through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. In addition, New York State requires Radiation Therapists to be licensed by the Department of Health.
