Step 1. Consultation

The first step for you as a potential radiation therapy patient at Ocean Radiation Oncology is an initial consultation with one of our Radiation Oncologists. At this visit, your Radiation Oncologist will learn about you and your medical history. This is a good time for you to ask questions.  You may want to consider bringing a family member or friend with you.

During this initial consultation, the Radiation Oncologist will review your medical records, including radiology and pathology reports, and you’ll receive a physical exam. At the end of your evaluation, your Radiation Oncologist will discuss your specific cancer and provide personalized treatment recommendations. If radiation treatment is recommended for you, he or she will explain the radiation treatment process and any potential side effects of radiation therapy.

If your Radiation Oncologist recommends radiation treatments for you, and you agree, the next step for most patients (with the exception of skin cancers) will be an appointment for a simulation procedure so that a specific plan for your radiation treatments can be developed. Any special instructions in preparation for the simulation session will be provided to you at the time of your initial consultation.
