Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) is a treatment technique that delivers very high doses of radiation therapy to the tumor target in fewer treatments (one to five total) than conventional external beam radiation therapy. It can be an appropriate, non-invasive alternative to surgical therapy for a number of tumors. Very specialized immobilization devices are used to minimize patient/organ motion and ensure maximum precision in tumor targeting. SBRT may be right for some cancers including, but not limited to, lung cancers (primary and metastatic), spine (and other bone) tumors, and liver tumors (primary and metastatic).
