Step 3. Treatment Planning

Using the CT scan information obtained during the simulation procedure, your Radiation Oncologist will enter data into the treatment planning computer system. The doctor will outline areas that need to be specifically targeted with radiation, as well as delineate critical structures that require protection from radiation exposure. This information, along with a radiation dose prescription, provides a guideline for treatment planning. 

Our Dosimetrist will then use sophisticated computer software to create a customized treatment plan for you under the guidance of your Radiation Oncologist. The main goal is to devise a treatment plan that best delivers the desired radiation dose to the target region while minimizing the radiation dose to the normal surrounding structures as much as reasonably possible.  

Once a plan has been fully optimized, your Radiation Oncologist will approve your radiation treatment plan after meticulous evaluation.

Our Medical Physicists will then check all computations and details of your treatment plan, followed by review of your plan. Once this critical quality assurance step is completed, your radiation plan is ready for use.
